Art Creates Communities: Project in Chelsea 2006-07
As in the first edition, in Art Creates Communities: Project in Chelsea 2005-06 artists from the Chelsea galleries reach out to the local community. Artists are asked to involve local teenagers in the planning and realization of projects that are works of art in and of themselves. Partnering with artists, rather than being taught by them, is a unique and empowering experience. Artists employ a variety of media that reflect the different approaches available in contemporary art.
The third edition started on October 1st, 2006 and ran through June 2007. It was divided into two phases. In the first phase, in the fall, the Clinton Middle School kids collaborated with a group of promising young artists from the School of Visual Arts, in New York. Starting in January, middle school kids from Clinton and high school kids from the Hudson Guild Teen Project collaborated once again with established professional artists. Projects include long-term collaborations with artists Slater Bradley and Nancy Drew. The project is curated by Micaela Martegani.
This year, the project continues for the 2007-2008 school year at The Clinton School as well as The Liberty High School Academy for Newcomers, !
Check the "Projects" sidebar soon for updated information on this year's projects.
