Chelsea 2005 - 2006: OBJECTIVE

As an experiment in community-based art, “Art Creates Communities” is not an art-and-craft program but it involves the teens in the realization of “works of art of enduring excellence,” as artist Tim Rollins has stated. It is meant to make the art process, and by extension the art world itself, more understandable and accessible. In the end, the kids feel empowered by the experience, and through them, the project is reaching also their family and friends and the Chelsea community at large. The program also envisions a different, collaborative art-making paradigm for the artists involved.
