Art Creates Communities: Project in Chelsea 2005-06
As in the first edition, in Art Creates Communities: Project in Chelsea 2005-06 artists from the Chelsea galleries reach out to the local community. Artists are asked to involve local teenagers in the planning and realization of projects that are works of art in and of themselves. Partnering with artists, rather than being taught by them, is a unique and empowering experience. Artists employ a variety of media that reflect the different approaches available in contemporary art.
The second edition started on October 1st, 2005 and will run through June 2006. It is divided into two phases. In the first phase, in the fall, the Clinton Middle School kids collaborate with a group of promising young artists from the School of Visual Arts, in New York. Starting in January, middle school kids from Clinton and high school kids from the Hudson Guild Teen Project collaborate once again with established professional artists. Artists include: Jay Davis, Michael Joo, Michael Rakowitz, Tim Rollins, and Saya Woolfalk. The project is curated by Micaela Martegani.
